About
Julie Connellan makes jewellery by examining the cultural and narrative content of materials and form. Making objects to be worn on the body can highlight and change the meaning of objects. To place, or intend to place an object on the body inherently carries codes and meanings about how we see ourselves and how we want others to perceive us. It conveys what we value and tells of our relationship to others and ourselves. Jewellery can be understood as a type of communication that holds layers of codes and meanings within its materials and form.
Julie Connellan was born and lives in County Galway, Ireland. She graduated from the Berufskolleg für Design, Schmuck und Gerät, Pforzheim, Germany in 2009. She received an M.A. (Research - Design, Metals) from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin in 2011. She has worked as a lecturer, translator (DE-EN) and teacher of art and design. She holds a B.A. Hons in European Studies from Trinity College Dublin, 2004.
